Tom Dixon Clock
This project required me to design and build a fully functional clock that represented British furniture designer, Tom Dixon. The clock I created was based off of his famous Pylon and Bird chair designs. I feel that they encapsulate Tom Dixon as an artist. Both of Tom Dixon’s chairs were created out of metal and welded together to create a unique form. These uncommon forms inspired the clock I created.
It was difficult to find a way to create a structure that appeared as a welded formation. I’ve have no experience in welding or soldering so those options were out. Additionally, ensuring lightness was an important factor because this piece needed to be able to be hung for display purposes. After numerous trials and errors, I found the perfect combination that worked: hot glue, wire and very sore fingers.
